Tokyo2050(beta)

This exhibition considers how we can understand, plan and design for the drastic changes in urban situations caused by COVID-19. In the first half of the exhibition, "Tokyo in Crisis, Its Future 2050", we will consider what is happening in cities today by looking at the COVID-19 disaster in the context of past disaster history. In the latter part, "Towards Remote Urban Design", the third-year students of the University of Tokyo's Department of Civil Engineering considered the process and results of a full-remote studio to contenplate how urban design should be carried out in remote society. University Labs Exihibition 2020: Degree Show Re-exihibition

We are to hold "University Labs Exihibition 2020: Degree Show Re-exihibition" for one week from September 22 to September 27. We are going to exhibit the students' projects, ranging from disaster reconstruction research to graduation work for a master's degree and theoretical research on cities and transportation, together with Taro Igarashi's lab at Tohoku University. Radio "Chikudokoboku note"

In 2018, torrential rain in west Japan caused floods and landslides. We started a channel about city re-design in "FM radio Baribari", a local radio station in Imabari city in Ehime prefecture, one of suffered by the disaster. Click here for details

Tokyo2050#

What the future Tokyo is going toward? This is an on-site study tour to experience the changes in traffic flows that have been formed to pass through the various micro-geographies in Tokyo, and what they will look like in the future. From Ryogoku to Hamarikyu, from Haneda to Shinagawa and Ikebukuro. May Festival Project "Yokohama City Planning 2050

"Yokohama Urban Planning 2050," a project by senior students of the Department of Civil Engineering, will be exhibited at the 89th May Festival on Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15, 2016. In this project, there will be an exhibition of the works from the lecture "Urban Planning Studio" and a symposium titled "The Future of the City: Hiroshi Naito and Eiji Hato". Hotaru-no-azemichi 2015

Hotaru-no-azemichi, a firefly lighting event is held in Meguro district, Matsuno cho, Kitauwa-gun, Ehime Prefecture on Saturday, May 30, 2015. Matsuno town is famous for its rich rural landscapeis because of the Meguro River, which extends from one of the largest three streams in Japan, and and fireflies. We have a festival every year in early summer when fireflies start to fly. Please come and visit us. Click here for details

Landscape Design Summer School 2014 "Reviving and Developing Travel Scenery

We conducted the U30 urban planning-design competition for the Dogo hot spring district in Matsuyama City. We invited proposals for regional design to revive the scenery of Dogo by utilizing its unique spatial structures such as streets and squares that have nurtured the open-air bath culture that has welcomed many travelers, including the pilgrims, based on the disaster risks such as conflagration and earthquake and transformation of regional structure in the future. Materializing Exhibition II

We participated in the exhibition at Tokyo University of the Arts as a part of the Tokyo 2050+ team. We divided the whole area of Japan into 256 grids of 50 km square, and visualized the population migration for 500 years from 1550 to 2050, and represented them in 2 m cubes. Click here for details

Run After Deer!

As part of the 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture, more than 50 architects world-wide participated in the exhibition "Traces of Centuries & Future Step" at Palazzo Bembo near the Rialto Bridge. Arata Isozaki was invited with Zhengdong New Area Management Committee of Zhengzhou City, China and exhibited "Run After Deer!" in the three most important rooms facing the Canal Grande. Landscape Design Summer School 2012

Tokyo 2050 // Visions of 12 Cities: TOKYO2050

In response to the main theme of the 24th UIA(International Union of Architect) World Congress, "DESIGN 2050," teams of twelve university laboratories in the Tokyo metropolitan area, majoring in architecture and urban design, will present their visions of the future of the metropolis in the year 2050 as a new vision of the metropolis. Mobility Design in Yokohama

On the basis of a better understanding of mobility, the Mobility Design Study Group considers the design of mobile space and mobility in Yokohama. We will have a frank discussion on 1) Area Management and Spatial Design in Yokohama; 2) Design of Eco-Mobility Services with ITS Technology; 3) Mobility Media connecting Urban Space and Transportation, including researchers, designers, programmers, NPO organizations, urban policy planners and government officials. We will have a "Mobility Cafe" to experience a new mobility tour in Yokohama. The 2nd Mobility Design Yokohama Conference will be held on 8th, Decemner, where we will have a "Mobility Cafe" to experience a new mobility tour in Yokohama, and discuss the role of eco-mobility in creating a new form of mobility in the age of global environment in relation to Eco Model City Vision. Walking the Path of Tomitaro Makino

Tomitaro Makino, a botanist, visited Mihara Village in Otsuki Town, Kochi Prefecture, in 1881 and 1893 when he was young. And he collected plants in various parts of the town. Based on the records in the Makino Library at the Makino Botanical Garden, we aim to survey the paths he walked and the plants he collected , and to provide tourists with information on the plant and regional resources in the area. Furthermore, we are holding an event with Otsuki Town and Mihara Village, titled "Walking on the Path of Tomitaro Makino", on November 29 and 30, 2008, you can experience a workshop on path-building, food, and the squeezing oil from Sazanka Click here for details

Probe Person Resarch Group Conference-3rd

Held at the University of Tokyo on August 1, 2008. This conference has been held once a year since 2005. We have discussed what the integration of the probe person technology and the increasingly sophisticated spatial information technology will enable in the field of social transport survey and user services, and what kind of theories and elemental technologies will be important in the future. There was a wide range of discussions from the case study of WikiRome to privacy issues and the concept of centerless probe. Click here for details
